Summary on consider disabled tourists too..

Malaysia will be celebrating her 50th anniversary as a soreign nation this coming August. In conjuction with the celebration, we are having Visit Malaysia Year(VMY) which is estimated to bring in an extra five million visitors.Tourists will be coming from all over the world including people with disabilities. It isn't easy for diabled persons to travel not only in Malaysia but also in many parts of the world though some countries go all out to provide facilities for handicapped travellers. It is advisable for them to travel with an able-bodied companion. Among the problems face by many hazards that blind and wheelchairs-using tourists which they have to look out for in citites and towns: improper curb cuts, uneven or suddenly-narrowing pavements with lamp posts and trees and discriminately-placed rubbish bins. Plus the lack of ramps for wheelchairs and diabled-friendly restrooms make a number of attractions difficult or impossible for the diabled traveller to visit. Moreover, many restaurants and hotels rarely provide wheelchair ramps. It is the same for public transports like trains, buses and even cabbies who might not want to take wheelchairs or will charge extra for them. Some of the tourist spots where the diabled can go but it will be needing further improvements to accomodate the diabled.By comparison, Thailand have plenty of activities such as elephant-trekking, scuba-diving,sailing,visiting temples and these opportunities are available for the handicapped visitors which are made possible by the foresight and assistance of the authorities and dedicated operators in desinging their facilities and services. It is important for Malaysia to start providing the same facilities as what Thailand have done.
